Law firm gunnercooke have created a 'junior division' - gunnerbloom, allowing the next generation of lawyers to develop their commercial and business skills.
A firm which already thinks outside the box, gunnercooke operates as a 'virtual' law firm in a franchise model. This junior division allows them to bring through a new generation without upsetting the current model.
The faith afforded to these junior level lawyers is a step in the right direction. It will allow them to learn and develop essential business skills early on, which in future should help them compete with traditionally more business savvy accountants who currently threatening the legal space, as well as other law firms in their sector. If successful this junior model could be adopted by other firms to build their future generations.
A Manchester practice has created a separate firm to act as a nursery for young lawyers to learn the business. Gunnerbloom, an offshoot of established firm gunnercooke, will be staffed by junior lawyers who will be given responsibility for generating leads and running the business.
