Northshoring; the practice where a firm moves its back-office staff based in London to a cheaper location, usually in the north, has really began to take off in recent times.
With Manchester being seen as the second city when it comes to legal services, that would seem a natural destination. However, in a welcomed move which offers competition, Sheffield council has set out a campaign to encourage London firms to choose them.
This could see the start of northern cities lobbying London firms to become their destination of choice. Something which could majorly benefit the north, showcasing and retaining local talent whilst creating employment.
Sheffield council leaders have drawn up a campaign to encourage London law firms to relocate services to the ‘steel city’. Creative Sheffield, the economic development arm of Sheffield City Council, has announced the creation of its North Shoring Campaign to promote the benefits of a move north. The campaign will see city leaders speak directly to law firms about moving skills and talent bases and will argue the appeal of Sheffield has never been so strong.
